Sri Lanka, Feb. 23 -- A Sri Lankan passenger was arrested by Police Narcotics Bureau officials at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) while trying to smuggle in a consignment of foreign-made cigarettes worth Rs. 1.5 million.

The 27-year-old woman is a beautician residing in the Suriyapaluwa area in Kadawatha.

She arrived at the Katunayake Airport yesterday (22) at 03.30 pm on Fitz Air flight 8D-824 from Dubai.

The luggage she was carrying contained 10,000 sticks of foreign cigarettes. The officers of the Police Narcotics Bureau seized the 50 cartons of cigarettes in her possession.

The passenger has now been released on police bail and is to be produced before the Negombo magistrate on Tuesday (25).
