Colombo, April 1 -- An Australian woman travelling on the Badulla-bound Odyssey Express train from Colombo Fort on Monday evening (31) sustained serious injuries after hitting her head against an iron post near the railway line between Nanu Oya and Ambewela stations while attempting to take a selfie from the footboard.

She was admitted to the Nuwara Eliya General Hospital.

The 27-year-old tourist, who was visiting Sri Lanka, met with the accident while on her way to Ella.

Railway officials stated that she had struck her head on the iron post and fell off the train. A hospital spokesperson confirmed that she is in critical condition.

Haputale police are conducting further investigations.
