Sri Lanka, May 28 -- The monthly allowance for elderly persons over the age of 70 in families receiving Aswesuma benefits will be credited to their Aswesuma bank accounts starting today, the Welfare Benefits Board said.
Board Chairman Jayantha Weejerathne said that beneficiaries would be able to access their funds through the designated benefit accounts from today onwards.
He further saidthat a total of over Rs. 2,963 million (Rs. 2,963,830,000) has been credited to the bank accounts of 592,766 eligible beneficiaries across the country.
The Aswesuma programme, aimed at supporting low-income and vulnerable families, continues to provide financial assistance to thousands of elderly citizens under its welfare framework.
