Sri Lanka, Dec. 2 -- A special operation is underway to restore the main entrance road leading to the Sri Pada site, after adverse weather conditions caused blockages and disruptions along the route.

Police said the damaged road has made it difficult to transport the relic casket to the Sri Pada Maluwa for religious observances on the opening day of the pilgrimage season.

In response, Sri Lanka Army troops have been deployed to repair and clear the affected sections.
