Sri Lanka, June 30 -- The Department of Inland Revenue filed legal action before Colombo Additional Magistrate Pavithra Sanjeewani Pathirana against Arjun Aloysius, Anthony Randev and Jinendra John, directors of Mendis Company, over allegations of evading the payment of Value Added Tax (VAT) amounting to over Rs. 1 billion due to the government.
The magistrate today issued notice on the three suspects, ordering them to appear before court on October 13.
Appearing on behalf of the Commissioner General of Inland Revenue, Counsel Dinesh Perera told court that the suspects had failed to pay the VAT amount related to the 2019/2020 financial year, thereby committing a punishable offence under tax laws.
