Srilanka, March 17 -- The carcass of a tusker was recovered today from the Ihakuluwewa tank reservation in Polonnaruwa by the Diyabeduma Police.
Wildlife conservation officers from Giritale who visited the scene on information from the police said that the carcass is suspected to be of the tusker known as 'Unicorn' (TO39) that had been frequenting the Minneriya and Kaudulla National Parks.
They said whether the tusker had been shot dead or it died of a natural death was yet to be established. Wildlife Veterinary Surgeon from Giritale Dr.Sameera Kalinguarachchi was scheduled to perform the postmortem examination.
