Sri Lanka, April 16 -- The traditional Anointing of Oil ceremony will take place at 9:04 AM on Wednesday, April 16, as part of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year celebrations. This ritual is performed to invoke blessings of good health, protection, and long life for the year ahead.
Dressed in green-colored attire and facing north, individuals anoint their heads with herbal oil infused with kohomba (neem) leaves, while placing kolon leaves under their feet. The ritual is usually performed by the eldest person in the household, a respected village elder, or a temple priest.
It is a meaningful practice rooted in tradition and believed to offer physical and spiritual well-being.
