Sri Lanka, July 28 -- The National Movement for Consumer Rights Protection (NCMRP) requested the Chairman of the Coconut Development Board (CDB) to allow only bottled and labeled coconut oil to be sold in the market, in order to prevent the ongoing racket of selling adulterated coconut oil, which is harmful to health.

NCMRP Chairman Ranjith Vithanage, in a letter to the CDB Chairman, pointed out that this racket has been continuing unchecked for a long time and that his organisation has made repeated representations to successive governments, but with no effective response.

He said that the use of adulterated coconut oil has led to cancer, and health authorities have acknowledged the associated health risks.
