Colombo, March 24 -- Action will be taken against over 22,450 semi-government and private institutions which have failed to pay or contribute to the Employees' Provident Fund (EPF), Labour Deputy Minister Mahinda Jayasinghe said.

Addressing the media at an event organised today for the appointment of the new Commissioner General of the Labour Department, he stated that nearly Rs. 36 billion in funds have been identified as unpaid to the Employees' Provident Fund (EPF).

"A programme is to be launched in collaboration with the Digital Ministry this week. Through this initiative, we aim to digitalize the entire system in the Labour Department while preventing illegal and fraudulent activities," the Deputy Minister said.
