Sri Lanka, Jan. 24 -- The government has disbursed 73 per cent of the Rs. 15,000 allowance allocated for schoolchildren from families affected by Cyclone Ditwah, the President's Media Division said.

A total of 186,893 students across all districts were identified as eligible for the assistance, with payments completed for 136,994 students to date. In addition, a further Rs. 10,000 allowance from the President's Fund is currently being distributed to eligible students.

State officials have said that mechanisms have been strengthened to ensure the remaining payments are completed swiftly, minimizing disruptions to students' education.
