Sri Lanka, May 19 -- Some 41 weapons including 14 T-56 rifles have been taken into police custody so far this year in connection with 46 shootings incidents reported in the country for the last five months, Police Spokesman SSP Buddhika Manatunga said today.

The spokesman said 46 shooting incidents were reported so far this year and that 31 out of them were connected to organised crimes.

He said investigations are being conducted into the incidents of organised crimes and that more than 100 suspects have been arrested.

"The police have taken into custody 27 pistols and 14 T-56 rifles following the investigations during the last five months," he said.
