Colombo, April 8 -- Four people, including the manager of a fuel station, died after a gas explosion in Wehera, Kurunegala late last night. Four others were injured, police said.

The explosion occurred around 11 p.m. when a lorry arrived to refill LP gas at the station. Early reports say one of the two large gas tanks each holding about 6,000 litres exploded during the refilling process, causing a massive fire.

Police believe the blast may have been caused by a mistake made by a worker who wasn't properly trained in handling the gas.

Those who died, including the manager and several workers, were reportedly trying to manage the refilling when the tank exploded.
