Sri Lanka, June 27 -- The Department of Coastal Conservation and Coastal Resources Management has identified approximately 2,500 unauthorised constructions along Sri Lanka's coastal belt.

Director General, Professor Turney Pradeep Kumara said that these structures violate coastal regulations and pose significant environmental risks.

He emphasised the importance of protecting coastal ecosystems and ensuring proper planning to prevent issues such as erosion and flooding.

He said they will initiate legal and regulatory measures to either remove or regularise these unauthorised structures.
