Sri Lanka, Jan. 16 -- A stock of 2,447 canned fish found to be unfit for human consumption was destroyed today (16) following an order issued by the Avissawella Magistrate's Court.
The case relates to a consignment of substandard canned fish seized during a special raid conducted by the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) in the Kosgama area on December 5, 2025. The case was taken up before the Avissawella Magistrate's Court today.
The court imposed a fine of Rs. 20,000 on the businessman involved, who admitted guilt, and ordered the destruction of the seized canned fish produced as case material.
Accordingly, the stock was destroyed at the Avissawella court premises under court supervision.
