Sri Lanka, Dec. 22 -- With the approach of the festive season, nearly 2,300 Public Health Inspectors (PHIs) and Administrative Public Health Inspectors have launched islandwide raids and inspections to ensure the availability of safe and quality food for consumers.

Health authorities said the special inspections are being carried out in view of recent heavy rainfall, which increases the risk of food contamination and spoilage. Legal action will be taken against traders who sell food items that are unfit for human consumption under such conditions.
