Sri Lanka, Jan. 2 -- Deputy Inspector General of the Narcotics Bureau, Ashoka Dharmasena, said that 170 kilograms of heroin, for which legal proceedings have been completed, will be destroyed today.

He said the drugs will be burnt and destroyed at the Lactowatte Police incinerator in Puttalam, in the presence of a Magistrate.

DIG Dharmasena added that the seized stock of narcotics was transported from the Chief Magistrate's Court to Puttalam under special security provided by the Special Task Force (STF).

He said the destruction of the drugs is being carried out in accordance with legal procedures to prevent their re-entry into circulation.
