Sri Lanka, Nov. 28 -- A total of 15 inbound flights have been diverted from Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) since 22:55 hrs yesterday (27) due to unsafe landing conditions caused by severe weather, airport authorities confirmed.
The flights were rerouted to Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport (MRIA), Trivandrum, and Cochin.
In addition to the diversions, 16 scheduled flights at BIA have experienced delays.
MRIA has been placed on high alert as part of contingency measures and is fully prepared to handle additional diversions, having already accommodated six aircraft without incident.
Meanwhile, one scheduled flight from Jaffna International Airport has been cancelled owing to weather-related risks.
