Dhaka, Dec. 24 -- A woman and her granddaughter have died in a fire that broke out at a house in Chattogram's Rangunia Upazila.

On Wednesday morning, the fire gutted six houses in Ward No. 8 of Kadir Para in Pomra Union, according to the Fire Service.

The dead were identified as Rumi Akhter, 55, and Jannat, a 5-year-old identified by a single name.

"We initially believe the fire started due to an electrical fault," Arjun Baroi, an official of Rangunia Fire Station told bdnews24.com.

The Fire Service received reports of the fire around 8:25am.

Three fire-fighting units rushed to the scene and brought the blaze under control by around 9:45am.
