Dhaka, Dec. 10 -- Private off-dock owners have stepped back from their undeclared strike in Chattogram after receiving assurances from the Chattogram Port Authority.

They announced a one-month suspension of the programme, Port Secretary Md Omar Faruk told bdnews24.com on Wednesday evening.

The inland depot owners had earlier said they would begin the action from 6am on Thursday after failing to secure what they described as the "expected" charges.

As part of the strike, they said they would refrain from handling export cargo and empty containers.

The decision to suspend the programme came after an afternoon meeting between the Port and Customs authorities and leaders of the Bangladesh Inland Container Depots Association (BICDA).
