Dhaka, Jan. 20 -- A foreign Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) ship named Gas Harmony has avoided a major accident after losing control in the Karnaphuli channel near Chittagong Port,.

The incident occurred while the ship was berthing at the United Tank Terminal Jetty around 10:15am on Tuesday.

A port official said the ship, carrying 515 tonnes of propane and 4,570 tonnes of butane combined gas from Liberia, lost control and nearly collided with the Karnafuli Fertiliser Company's (KAFCO) ammonia jetty.

Port Director (Administration) Md Omar Faruk told bdnews24.com that the accident was avoided by changing the direction of the 159.9m-long ship.
