Dhaka, Dec. 20 -- Assailants have reportedly set fire to the village home of senior Jatiya Party leader Anisul Islam Mahmud in Chattogram's Hathazari.

The incident took place shortly before midnight on Friday in the Gumanmardan area of Hathazari Upazila.

Police said a group of people arrived at the house on motorcycles, in a microbus and on foot before carrying out vandalism and setting the property on fire.

No one was at home at the time, and there were no reports of injuries.

Md Tarek Aziz, additional superintendent of police (ASP) for Hathazari Circle, said officers went to the scene after receiving reports of the attack.

"Local residents came out after hearing about the incident, and the attackers fled," he said.
