Dhaka, Jan. 10 -- Unidentified assailants have gunned down an activist of Jamaat-e-Islami and injured another in Fatikchhari, Chattogram.

The incident took place at Lelang Union of the Upazila around 7:30pm on Saturday, police said.

The dead, Jamal Uddin, 38, was a resident of the area.

The injured, Nasir Uddin, 35, has been admitted to Chattogram Medical College Hospital.

Kazi Md Tareq Aziz, additional superintendent of police (Hathazari Circle), told bdnews24.com: "Locals said the miscreants came on a motorcycle and shot them on the road and fled."

Jamal was shot near his home, police said, adding that the victim was known to locals as a Jamaat activist.
