Dhaka, Feb. 7 -- Workers and activists at the Chittagong Port have called an indefinite strike from Sunday morning, escalating protests over plans to lease a key container terminal to a foreign operator.

The action is being led by the "Bandar Rokkha Sangram Parishad" (Port Protection Struggle Council), which is demanding the cancellation of a proposed deal to hand over operations of the New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT) to DP World, a Dubai-based port operator.

The strike is set to begin at 8am on Sunday, following a two-day suspension of earlier work stoppages.
