Dhaka, Dec. 30 -- Burning fireworks, firecrackers and flying lanterns have been prohibited in Chattogram city on the last day of the Gregorian calendar.

Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner Hasib Aziz has issued six instructions imposing strict restrictions on public movement and gatherings, particularly around Patenga and Parki beaches.

The restrictions will come into force from 6pm on Wednesday and remain effective for the next 24 hours, the CMP said.

The instructions were issued under Sections 28, 29 and 33 of the Chattogram Metropolitan Police Ordinance, it added.
