Bangladesh, Aug. 18 -- The Chattogram City Corporation has marked 142km of roads damaged by relentless rainfall this monsoon.
Although repair work has begun on its own initiative, Mayor Shahadat Hossain has written to the Local Government Division seeking Tk 5 billion to fix all damaged roads and slabs, and to install safety fences along risky canals and drains.
This year, heavy rains began in Chattogram city in late May.
Although there was no waterlogging initially, residents saw submerged streets at least six times in the past two months, most recently on Jul 31.
Since the start of the monsoon, road surfaces in various parts of the city have worn away, exposing bricks and mortar.
