Dhaka, Dec. 25 -- Mir Arshadul Hoque, the chief coordinator of the National Citizen Party's (NCP) Chattogram Metropolitan unit, has announced his resignation in a statement on social media.

In a post on Facebook on Thursday, Arshadul said he was stepping down from all positions within the party. He also said he would no longer run for election from the Chattogram-16 (Banshkhali) constituency in the upcoming election.

Explaining his decision, Arshadul said he believed the party was moving in the "wrong direction".

In the same post, he also welcomed BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman's return home after 17 years in exile.
