Turning in a lap time of 7 minutes and 46.13 seconds, it beat the record previously held by the earlier Golf R. The timing of this accomplishment is fitting, marking 50 years of the Golf GTI nameplate and reinforcing its legacy as Volkswagen's most iconic performance car. The record-setting lap at the notoriously challenging "Green Hell" was driven by professional racer Benjamin Leuchter.
