New Delhi, June 17 -- Volkswagen has redefined its performance credentials at the Nurburgring Nordschleife, with the Golf GTI Edition 50 setting a new benchmark as the fastest production model the brand has ever run on the famed 20.8 km circuit. Turning in a lap time of 7 minutes and 46.13 seconds, it beat the record previously held by the earlier Golf R. The timing of this accomplishment is fitting, marking 50 years of the Golf GTI nameplate and reinforcing its legacy as Volkswagen's most iconic performance car. The record-setting lap at the notoriously challenging "Green Hell" was driven by professional racer Benjamin Leuchter.
