Guwahati, March 20 -- Finally, seven decades after Independence, India has got its anti-corruption ombudsman, the Lokpal. Its belated nature, as also the fact that it required prodding from the Supreme Court of India in the final stages, is a signal reminder as to how loathe our politicians are towards having a watchdog scanning their actions. The initial pressure had come from Anna Hazare in 2011, when he launched his anti-corruption crusade, a principal demand of which was the formation of a Lokpal at the Centre and Lokayuktas in the States.
