SILCHAR, April 18 -- Matching shoulders with young and first-time voters, senior citizens and Divyang voters of Karimganj district showed great enthusiasm, coming out to vote in large numbers today amid tight security arrangements.

In Suprakandi area of the district, 80-year-old Pushpa Rani Deb, a voter in the Divyang or person with disability (PwD) category, was received warmly by officials at the model polling station in Pallimangal High School. She was the first voter at the polling station, the officials said.

'I am happy to be able to come out and vote,' Deb said after casting her vote.

On the other hand, 90-year-old Lalit Mohan Nath had a big smile on his face as he was being taken to the polling station on a wheelchair.
