A ministerial sub-committee appointed to draft Constitutional amendments
Colombo, Aug. 20 -- Earlier, the Cabinet yesterday decided to abolish the 19th Amendment to the Constitution and draft a new constitutional amendment.
The motion seeking to abolish the 19th Amendment to the Constitution is expected in Parliament soon.
It is said, a five-member panel will be appointed to draft the 20th constitutional amendment, the Cabinet Spokesman said on Wednesday.
"It is an open mandate for the ministry of justice to decide who should be there," co-cabinet spokesman Udaya Gammanpila told reporters.
He added that the justice minister has been vested with the power to appoint the expert committee.
