South Pacific seabirds facing major threat from plastic: Study

Washington, Oct. 18 -- : Plastic being a major cause of environment pollution has now been confirmed as a global threat to South Pacific seabirds, including albatrosses.

Published in the journal 'Aquatic Conservation: Marine and Freshwater Ecosystems', the study emphaises how plastics affects seabirds from around the South Pacific.

For the research, the author of the study uses data gathered by Canterbury Museum Senior Curator Natural History Dr Paul Scofield and Wellington ornithologist Christopher Robertson in the late 1990s and 2000s.
