Kupang, April 2 -- Survivors of the eruptions of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Flores, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), have discovered 16 active grenades and 393 rounds of ammunition, which are believed to date back to World War II.

East Flores Police Chief, Adjunct Chief Commissioner (AKBP) Adhitya Octorio Putra, identified the explosives as type 97 grenades -standard hand grenades used by Japanese soldiers during the global war.

He noted that the grenades, each measuring around 9.6 centimeters in length and weighing 65 grams, are currently stored in a bunker located far from residential areas.

Putra explained that the ammunition rounds had been secured at a security post jointly operated by police and military officers.
