Jakarta, May 19 -- With the government's rice reserves touching 3.8 million tons as of May 18, 2025, Indonesia is one step away from achieving sustainable and independent rice self-sufficiency, according to Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman.

He said that with the current reserves, the country is moving closer to the strategic threshold of 4 million tons.

"Structured and sustainable collaborative steps between the government and (the National Logistics Agency) Bulog are clear evidence that rice self-sufficiency is no longer just a dream, but a reality that is getting closer to (being) realized," he added in a statement released on Monday.
