Jakarta, May 6 -- A fatal passenger bus crash in Padang Panjang City, West Sumatra, on Tuesday, resulted in 12 deaths and injured dozens more, according to the Transportation Ministry.

"According to our current data, 12 passengers were killed, while 25 others were injured. The joint rescue team has been deployed to rescue the victims," Ahmad Yani, the ministry's acting director general for land transportation, noted in his written statement here.

Yani confirmed that the ministry is coordinating with relevant authorities, including the police, the local transportation authority, and the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT), to investigate the incident.
