Meulaboh, Sept. 25 -- The West Aceh Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has built fire breaks at four sites to contain forest and land fires that have scorched nearly 19 hectares across several sub-districts.

"The goal of blocking off these fire locations is to prevent the flames from spreading to other areas," Acting Head of the West Aceh BPBD Teuku Ronal Nehdiansyah said on Thursday.

The fire breaks were established in Keub Village, Arongan Lambalek Sub-district, and Deuah Village, Samatiga Sub-district, as well as Leuhan, Lapang and Suak Raya Villages in Johan Pahlawan Sub-district, he said.

Nehdiansyah added that, as of Thursday afternoon, the fire area had not expanded since the fire breaks were completed.
