Ngawi, May 24 -- Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, along with Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman, joined farmers in planting superior rice seeds in a village in Ngawi District, East Java Province, on Saturday.

The two leaders participated in the planting activity to gain first-hand insight into how farmers contribute to the government's goal of achieving food self-sufficiency.

During the activity, farmers guided Gibran, who was accompanied by East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa and Ngawi District Head Ony Anwar Harsono, in planting seeds in a rice field using a modern machine.

Gibran said that, as one of Indonesia's key food-producing regions, Ngawi plays a crucial role in maintaining national food security.
