Timika, May 13 -- Residents of Mimika District in Central Papua warmly welcomed the Vatican Ambassador to Indonesia, Monsignor (Mgr) Piero Pioppo, upon his arrival on Tuesday.

The Vatican ambassador to Indonesia was greeted at Mozes Kilangin Timika Airport in Mimika District by a dance performed by the Kamoro Tribe.

Mimika District Head, Johannes Rettob, said the arrival of the ambassador and his entourage was a great honor for all Catholics in Papua.

"The arrival of the Vatican ambassador to Indonesia is also important to strengthen the relationship between the Catholic Church and the local government and the people of Mimika," Rettob stated.
