Ambon, Aug. 31 -- A sociologist at Pattimura University (Unpatti) in Ambon, Dominggus E. B. Saija said the government can prevent anarchic protests by providing broader space for dialogue with the public.
"Recent demonstrations over the past week stem mainly from a sense of solidarity against perceived injustice," he said in Ambon on Sunday.
He noted that social and political movements will continue to emerge when people feel they are treated unfairly. Therefore, public aspirations should be addressed wisely to prevent the situation from escalating into harmful actions.
Dominggus also urged Ambon residents to respond calmly to national social and political dynamics and avoid being provoked into anarchic demonstrations.
