Jakarta, July 10 -- Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Minister, Arifah Fauzi, has said that unchecked use of gadgets and social media is contributing to sexual violence against women and children.
"Because, of some instances of violence experienced or perpetrated by children, most of them are caused by social media or gadgets' influence," she added here on Thursday.
According to reports received by the ministry, 11,800 cases of violence against women and children were registered in Indonesia as of June 14, 2025.
On July 7, the number of cases surged to 13 thousand, meaning there were 2 thousand additional reports in just two weeks, she pointed out. The cases were dominated by sexual violence against women, she added.
