Jakarta, Sept. 1 -- Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) Deputy Commander Gen. Tandyo Budi Revita dismissed speculation that security forces were deliberately allowing violent demonstrations in order to justify the imposition of martial law.

"There is no intention to take over (through martial law), none at all," Tandyo said on Monday at the House of Representatives (DPR) complex in Jakarta after attending a closed-door meeting with Commission I.

He explained that the responsibility for handling demonstrations lies with the National Police (Polri), while the TNI only provides assistance to help maintain order.
