Jakarta, July 4 -- Deputy Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Fajar Riza Ul Haq has said that in the education sector, technology should only be used to boost educational progress, not as a replacement for teachers.

In a statement released on Friday, he underlined that one way teachers can maintain their role is by stimulating learning.

"They must have awareness to create a joyful, meaningful, and mindful environment," he said while reviewing the readiness of community learning centers in Sleman, Yogyakarta, on Friday.

Furthermore, he noted that the digitalization of education can accelerate improvement in basic literacy, including Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) literacy in Indonesia.
