Jakarta, Jan. 4 -- The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) recorded the death toll from hydrometeorological disasters in several areas of Sumatra reached 1,177 as of January 4, 2026.
"These additional deaths increase the total number from three provinces. Yesterday, our recapitulation, cut off at 4:00 p.m., was 1,167, and today the number of deaths increased by 10, bringing the total to 1,177," BNPB's head of data and information center, Abdul Muhari, informed in a press conference on Sunday.
He explained that the additional deaths were spread across North Aceh (3), South Tapanuli (5), and West Sumatra (2).
