Jakarta, April 12 -- President Prabowo Subianto had requested a meeting with United States President Donald Trump long before the announcement of the US import tariff policy.

"I have requested for a time (to meet with President Trump)," Prabowo said after attending the Antalya Diplomacy Forum (ADF) in Turkey on Friday evening.

According to Foreign Minister Sugiono, an official letter requesting the meeting was sent at the beginning of Trump's second term in January 2025.

He added that the request was submitted to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.

Currently, the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is still awaiting confirmation on the meeting.
