Jakarta, Dec. 7 -- Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu'ti stated that several schools will need to be relocated from disaster-prone areas in Sumatra, following floods and landslides that struck the region.

The minister affirmed that he had coordinated with the Education Offices of Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra to compile data on the number of schools that have sustained heavy, moderate, and light damage.

"From the sites we visited, there are several schools that simply cannot be maintained in their current locations because they are in high-risk zones. Thus, we must build new schools in safer areas," he said in Jakarta on Sunday.
