Jakarta, July 5 -- Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq stated that his ministry had sent letters to 2,590 companies, requesting them to increase their preparedness to prevent land fires, and only 1,060 expressed their readiness.

The minister conveyed this information after leading a meeting on land fire control preparedness in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, on Friday, according to a statement received on Saturday.

He remarked that the meeting was a strategic opportunity to strengthen synergy between the Ministry of Environment and plantation business players in reducing the risk of land fires.
