Jakarta, Feb. 4 -- By restricting children from creating social media accounts, the government is aiming to ensure their greater safety online, not limit their Internet access, Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) Minister Meutya Hafid has clarified.
She made the statement during a working meeting with legislators of Commission I of the House of Representatives (DPR) in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Hafid said that her ministry is working on a regulation to ban children under 16 years of age from creating and using social media accounts on their own without parental supervision.
She, however, underlined that the planned regulation would not hinder parents from allowing their kids to access social media platforms through parental accounts....
