Jakarta, June 18 -- Indonesia's sixth president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) stated that he has joined the Asia Pacific Leaders Malaria Alliance (APLMA) to aid Indonesia in eliminating malaria under a global commitment to achieve this goal by 2030.

In a statement received here on Wednesday, SBY said that as APLMA's special advisor, he is committed to helping Indonesia succeed in reaching the target, by establishing collaboration with global organizations dedicated to malaria eradication worldwide.

He pointed out that although malaria is most severe in the African region, the Asia Pacific, including Indonesia, must also take malaria elimination seriously, as it is also a matter of humanity and equity.
