Jakarta, March 21 -- Six Indonesian Umrah pilgrims were killed in a bus accident on the Medina-Mecca highway in Saudi Arabia on Thursday, according to Indonesia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The ministry's Director for Indonesian Citizens Protection, Judha Nugraha, stated that Indonesia's Consulate General in Jeddah received the accident report from local authorities on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. (GMT+3).

"The total number of victims from the Indonesian pilgrimage group is 20, six of whom died, while the rest were injured," Nugraha said in a written statement on Friday.

The accident occurred in Wadi Qudaid, approximately 150 km north of Jeddah. According to preliminary reports, the bus was involved in a collision, which led to a fire.
