Jakarta, June 26 -- Deputy Speaker of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR), Lestari Moerdijat, has urged the government to refer to the 1945 Constitutional mandate to protect national security and promote global peace in responding to conflicts between countries.
"In responding to several conflicts that currently exist, our Constitution has mandated the government to protect the whole Indonesian nation," she said in a statement received here on Wednesday.
Moerdijat conveyed this in her written remarks at an online discussion on the Israel-Iran war on Wednesday.
She stressed that the response to conflicts must prioritize global peace.
