Jakarta, Sept. 14 -- Indonesia's Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries is restoring coral reef ecosystems around Pieh Island, West Sumatra, to revive marine biodiversity and ensure sustainable ocean resources, officials said Sunday.

"We're working with multiple partners to rehabilitate coral reefs in the Pieh Island National Conservation Area," said Firdaus Agung, director of Ecosystem Conservation at the ministry.

The project targets reefs vulnerable to rising sea temperatures and coral bleaching caused by climate change.

Firdaus said the initiative has already shown encouraging results, with improvements in water quality and significant ecological recovery.
